Maheshwari Saree Stores

The beautiful Maheshwari sarees are among the most popular sarees produced in India. These sarees have demand not only in national market but also in international market. These sarees are largly produced in the town of Maheshwar in Madhya Pradesh. The oirigin of the sarees dates back to 18th century, when the state of Indorein Madhya Pradesh was ruled by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar. As the origin of the sarees are in Madhya Pradesh, initially, the Maheshwari Saree Stores were restricted to Madhya Pradesh. According to legends, Queen Ahilyabai ordered craftsmen from Surat and Malwa to design special 9-yard sarees to be gifted to royal guests and relatives.
The sarees that were produced by these craftsman were popularly known as Maheswari sarees. It is believed that Queen Ahilyabai herself created the design of the first saree. These sarees were originally worn by the ladies of royal status, but nowadays, they are available in both national and international markets. Hence international Maheshwari Saree Stores are also available as these sarees are no longer restricted by national boundary.
The designs in the Maheshwari sarees were inspired by the detailing on the walls of the Fort of Maheshwar. Some of the popular designs of the Maheshwari Saree Stores are the “Chatai' pattern or that the 'Mat' pattern, the 'Chameli ka phool' pattern that is the 'Chameli Flower' pattern, 'Enet' pattern or the “Brick pattern as well as the 'Heera' or diamond pattern. These patterns are found in Maheswari Sarees even today. Originally these sarees were made of pure silk. Then in course of time, these sarres began to be made in pure cotton and then a combination of silk and cotton. Presently, wool is also used in the production of Maheshwari sarees. These sarees are very light and present a sharp contrast to the Kanchivaram of South India.
