A carpet is any loom-woven, felted textile or grass floor covering. Carpet was also used for table and wall covering, as carpets were not commonly used used on floor until the 18th century. The hand-knotted woollen carpets probably originated in Central Asia between 3rd and 2nd century B.C. Some used the word rug as a synonym of carpet, but there are some difference between a carpet and a rug based on size. Carpets can be divided into various types depending on their manufacturing process: woven, tufted, needlefelt, flatweave, hooked rug and others.
