Bandhani Stores

Bandhani is a popular and traditional art form originated in India. This particular art work follows the procedure of dyeing while making design on clothes. Bandhani is practiced mainly in the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat, India. The original Bandhani Stores are also located in that particular areas. Sometimes it is also referred to as Bandhej art or Bandhej art work. The term “bandhani” derives from a Hindi term Bandhan which means tying up.
Bandhani work is basically to tye and dye the pieces of cotton or silk cloth. The main colors used in Bandhani are yellow, red, green and black. These colors are called the primary colors while making bandhani. To make bandhani work, one has to tye several parts of the cloth according to the requirements of the design. Then the cloth is to be dyed. As a result, variety of symbols including, dots, squares, waves and strips of different colors are made on the piece of cloth. As, this kind of art work achieved immense popularity in each and every part of India other than Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and in foreign countries as well, Bandhani Stores are nothing but a common thing across the world.
If we look back to the origin of the bandhani, it is the credit of Muslim Khatri Community of Kutchh who exclusively carried out this art form. Those Muslim Khatri womens are the custodian of this art from one generation to another. A meter long of cloth can have millions of tiny knots known as "Bheendi" in local language "Kutchhi". These knots form a design once open after dieying in bright colors. Traditionally, the final products can be classified into "Khombi", "Ghar Chola", "Patori", "Chandrokhani" etc. Many Bandhani Stores often bare a new kind of printed bandhani works which is a bit different from the traditional ones. In modern days Bandhani is very popular not only in ladies wears but in gents dressess too. Several Bandhani Stores and fashion designers now often boasts of bandhani dresses for men only.
